5 comfort kdramas to pull you through this pandemic

Hello everyone!!

Today I’m coming with yet another kdrama post; I’ve had this idea for a while now, to do separate overly specific kdrama recommendations and this is the first attempt. Let’s see how it goes!

As always I only recommend the ones I’ve watched and enjoyed (that’s why these posts are not very regular) and would really appreciate any feedback you could give!! Like what sort of recs you want to see etc.

So let’s get to the gist of the post: comfort kdramas. What do I mean by that? well, you know these dramas that make you feel warm and fuzzy inside? that relax and calm you and make you feel good about yourself and life in general? that’s exactly the vibe these 5 kdramas gave me.

I’m a huge fan of this type of drama even if it is severely underappreciated. and I get it; they’re not loud and don’t attract a lot of attention with insane plot lines and character relationships. They’re more on the quiet side with real life relationships and struggles. But I absolutely love watching them; in one word they make me feel comforted.

Ready for the recs? Let’s go!!

Run On (2020)

One of my fav comfort dramas and the one that sort of inspired this post. Watch if you’re looking for:

👟 cute romance x2

👟 inspirational quotes

👟 relaxation and calmness

👟 lovable characters

Into the Ring (2020)

if I had to choose a favorite from this list, this would definitely be it. Watch if you’re looking for:

🗳 lively, bubbly female lead

🗳 grumpy (but soft only for the fl) male lead

🗳 FUN

🗳 corrupt politicians getting what they deserve

Do You Like Brahms? (2020)

This one is soo underappreciated. I get that it’s not the a very memorable drama but this is its beauty, for me. Watch if you like:

🎻 soft soft soft romance

🎻 a little bit of pain and yearning

🎻 music

🎻 characters finding their calling and direction in life

Mystic Pop Up Bar (2020)

This was a big surprise for me because I didn’t expect to like it as much. Watch if you like:

🥣 food as a comfort

🥣 tragic backstories

🥣 found family trope

Lovestruck In the City (2020-2021)

I loved the fact the episodes were 30 min long I wish more dramas would follow this TAKE NOTES! Watch if you like:

🏖 summer vibes / summer romance

🏖 whipped boys

🏖 angst and yearning (a lot)

🏖 creative ways of storyrelling

Have you watched any of these kdramas? Are they on your to be watched list? Let me know!

  1. I’ve heard sooo many amazing things about Run On!!! Into the Ring sounds so good, it’s sad it’s not more popular but I’m going to give it a go! I have Do You Like Brahms on my list due to its ~soft~ romance, but I’m also on the fence since a lot of people say it’s super slow?? Idk it can be comforting or I might lose my patience… I’m also torn on whether I should watch Hotel Del Luna and Mystic Pop Up Bar since they have similar concept (and I love both IU and the male ahjussi lead from MPUB haha!)- I know I’ll love both but I also know I’ll love the one I’ll watch second if it’s too similar to the other 😦 And I love JCW and Kim Ji Won so I’m definitely gonna watch Lovestruck! The mockumentary concept is super interesting too and my friend couldn’t stop raving about it 😀

    • I will die on this hill: into the ring needs more attention!!!! pls let me know what you think when you watch it 😔❤
also do you like brahms is kind of slow I’ll admit 😬 so idk maybe you should skip. i was watching in real time and it didn’t seem as slow since I had to wait for new episodes every week but for binge watching I don’t know how I’d like it.
I haven’t watched hotel del luna but I think it is a waaaay more high stakes fantasy than mystic pop up bar; it was more of a contemporary drama with some fantasy elements thrown in than a full blown one that (I think) hotel del Luna is.
and yes!!! i agree with your friend the mockumentary aspect made the drama for me, it was very clever and funny!!
