Today’s prompt is:

20 April: Top 5 Debut Novels

THIS PROMPT WAS MEANT JUST FOR ME ❤❤❤ I love debut novels, the pleasure it gives me to discover a new fav author, the expectation of what more they have in store for me is just !!!!!!! no words

1. Legendborn, by Tracy Deonn

Hands down, Legendborn is one of the best debut fantasy novels I’ve read in my life. The world building, the characters, the uniqueness, it feels like a seasoned writer wrote it and not someone just stepping their toes in publishing. Queen Deonn miracle maker 👑

2. These Violent Delights, by Chloe Gong

Not only is this a debut novel, but the author is also still in college ?????? i am in awe miss gong pls have mercy on me. These Violent Delights deserves every inch of the hype it’s getting, no I don’t take criticism it is what it is.

3. A Pho Love Story, by Loan Le

Did someone say cute but also hard hitting but in a cute way? lots of cute involved i know, but A Pho Love Story is so damn cute I can’t resist I’m sorry 😭❤

4. The Gilded Ones, by Namina Forna

Another debut fantasy that totally blew me away with its uniqueness and creativity. The Gilded Ones feels like a debut alright, but the potential I see is a living thing in front of me and that brings me to my first point: it’s all about the expectation: What may happen in the next book? Will i survive it? probably not.

5. You Should See Me in a Crown, by Leah Jonson

I am tears this debut was everything 😭 You Should See Me in a Crown raised numbers for the lesbian community 💕

6. Angelfall, by Susan Ee

Angelfall will always and forever be the best angel book sorry i font make the rules. The angel era may have been a disaster but at least it gave us this gem so who’s the real winner here.

7. An Ember in the Ashes, by Sabaa Tahir

Sabaa Tahir managed to built this world on her first book???? goddess behavior right there.

8. The City of Brass, by S. A. Chakraborty

Accepting that The City of Brass is a debut novel was one of the hardest pills I had to swallow. Like how ??? can a debut ??? be so perfect ????

9. The Hate U Give, Angie Thomas

I couldn’t talk about debuts and NOT include Angie Thomas it is heresy. The Hate U Give literally took the world by storm and honestly it is what it deserves.

10. The Children of Blood and Bone, by Tomi Adeyemi

Another fantasy debut that left me *insert shocked Pikachu* Even though the second book was a miss, my hope is still alive for the third and final book in the trilogy!

SOMEBODY STOP ME BEFORE I MAKE THIS INTO A TOP 20.

What is your top 5 ??? Have you read any of the debuts above? What are your thoughts?

  1. I have yet to read an angel-era book, but I’m so interested in Angelfall! When I think of YA angel-related media all I can think about is the Fallen movie. I never read the book, but watched the movie to see how horrible it could possibly be…it was beyond awful and I may or may not watch it every now and then to make sure I wasn’t just imagining it 😄

    • OMG the fallen books were bad, but the movie is on another level of bad, let’s take a moment to pray for the braincells we lost watching it ….
ANYWAY you should definitely read Angelfall !!!!! the only angel book that deserves rights 🤧

  2. As someone who really struggled to stick to a Top 5 (and is constantly regretting those choices), I’m really glad you went with 10 books!! So many amazing novels on here, and so many that I still need to read as well!! 💕
